Jon Morosi of Fox Sports on Wednesday reported the news the Baltimore Orioles are interested in making a trade of players with the Pittsburgh Pirates to acquire left handed starting pitcher Francisco Liriano before the Major League Baseball trading deadline which is on July 31, 2016. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a record of 34 wins and 37 losses which has them in third place in the National League Central Division 13.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs who are the division leaders. The Pirates are still in contention to make the playoffs as a wild card entry which means they are not interested in trading away Liriano to the Orioles who are currently in first place in the American League East Division one game ahead of the Boston Red Sox. Liriano, 32, would make a welcome addition to the Orioles starting pitching staff if the Pirates decide to trade him to a playoff contender before the trade deadline. If the Orioles cannot make a trade with the Pirates to get the services of Liriano they will have to look elsewhere to acquire a pitcher for a team that is not in playoff contention in the 2016 baseball season.

Interesting situation. Baltimore is going for it and starting pitching is a weakness. If the Pirates trade Liriano, that means they are throwing in the towel.

You are correct on the matter that if the Pirates are out of the pennant contention the Cisco Kid will leave Pittsburgh.
