Can Anybody Tell me How to Read and Understand....?.

When I expressed my fear of hearing some noises in the midnight or seeing someone in a remote corner in my room, one of my friends offered me the Holy Bible and advised me to go through it before going to bed and to keep it under my Pillow. I tried to read it. The book was small. Leave it about the size. The letters were small. That too I leave it. When it comes to reading and understanding it became very difficult for me. When I asked for another one he gave it but in that also I did not find anything 'easy to understand'. The language was in some cases were beyond my understanding and in some, the incidents were not described properly. There is no sequence or order. Of course, I may be wrong to arrive at such conclusion. Can anybody tell me how to read and understand the Holy Bible? Just give me the steps ...so that I can improve it by reading some other books.
