Kids and Pets

You know EVERY YEAR when the temps get high, newscasters WARN people about leaving kids and pets in the car. It's not hard to understand that with the windows rolled up that the temp will reach 120 degrees within 10 minutes. Even with the windows rolled half-way down, the temps are deadly. How does a Dad drop 2 kids off at school, drive home and leave the 3rd child in the car while he goes in and takes a 4-hour nap. When he awoke it dawned on him and when he got to the car, the child was hot as a brick and then he goes and puts her in the refrigerator to cool her down. His excuse? I forgot. Or the lady who goes to the mall and leaves her child in the car. She comes out after 1/2 an hour to find the child with NO pulse, NO heartbeat and NOT breathing. It's the same for a dog in the car and it's worse because the dog has a fur coat. And for those who leave their dog in the bed of the pickup? Just how hot do you think that metal or plastic floor gets. I want these people to take off their shoes and socks and step up into the bed of that truck. Are people just nuts? Have they lost their minds?

People like these are a sorry lot and don't deserve to have children or pets.

To lose a mind, one must first have one. People can be absolute idiots. There always seem to be some who disregard warnings. As examples, other than the excellent one you've written about, I offer the following warnings routinely ignored: Don't drive in high water, especially if the road is blocked. Don't wander off the trail when hiking. Don't drink and drive. Don't ski in avalanche season. Don't stop your car on the railroad tracks. I'm sure there are many many more to add to this list.

@nanette64 It's a head-scratcher, alright. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention diving into untested waters. A high school classmate of mine did that; he ended up a quadriplegic (broke his neck).

It is a terrible thing and really makes you wonder what is going on with people.

People can be plain fools. They should receive the eye for an eye punishment. I'm not surprised that I like animals more than some people.

I don't understand at all. That is one of my pet peaves I do not let any of my children stay in the car at all. Even my 16 year old she gets mad at me but I don't care. Our little dog loves to go with us but when the temps are this high Im sorry she doesnt. If someone like myself who is on a walker can make sure my children are out of the car then what the heck is wrong with everybody else

And I love the ones that think if they leave the AC on in the vehicle the kids and animals are going to be fine. And so what happens if the engine over-heats and the car stalls out @AutumnSnow .
