I have been wondering how some blogs manage to top the google search. I know most if not all of them, have done some SEO work. But as far as I know to succeed we will have to spend some bucks and make our blog SEO friendly. Has anyone here has tried SEO and managed to earn money by blogging?

What I have observed it people develop or buy a site with good Page rank and then use it in freelancing sites to promote other topics.

Yep you can earn money on blogging but it'll requires too much of time and effort just to gain more visitors! Not easy specially you have many competitors.

That's right. It is highly important to choose the right topic.
