"Maybe the past is like an anchor holding us back." I found this quote online and can you tell me your thoughts on this quote? I kinda understand the meaning of the quote when it says that our past is holding us back because I think that there are things in the past that we need to let go in order to move forward. But sometimes those things that we experienced in the past is what makes us who we are today. So by letting go of your past I feel like you are also letting go a part of yourself. So I'm not sure if it's really a good thing to just let it go because you cannot be who you are or where you are today without your past. I think it is more of acceptance. Accepting the past, accepting that it is a part of you and learn from whatever experiences that you have had so that you can move forward with the knowledge that you are now wiser and stronger. These are my thoughts on this quote. How about you?

Appreciate the past Utilize the present and do not be afraid to create the future The past is always there and it has made us who we are today however majority of people keep living in the past looking to the good o'l days when times were much simpler and better, they do not use the present to improve their circumstances. They are victims of the past I was one of them and I never ever want to be :)

That's a nice explanation. You do have a point because some people do live in the past.. That's probably where the quote came from. We need to let go of the past but not actually forget them. :)

@royanne Just like you said. The past is an anchor. How can a ship move if its anchor is still down? Take the anchor with you and sail away :)

We let go of the bad experiences but we keep the good ones. Letting go doesnt mean forgetting. Letting go means you chose to move on for the better.

I will keep that in mind. Letting go doesn't mean forgetting but moving on for the better. That's nice. I think we should let go of the past and learn from it to have a brighter future. :)

Thinking much of the past would really hold you back like a page of a book you keep on reading. It is not good to be in that state pause your life in that moment and does not move on. Well, events in life happens for a reason like you said accept the past, you learned a lesson in the past the can mold you to be a better person and in that experience you can be cautious about things next time.

Past is past. Once you are still mingle on it you can never never move forward. and yes @royanne you are correct acceptance to what happened in past is the key of everything. Whatever your past is, good or bad, learned from it and from there you will find your inner strength to look the better side of your present and tomorrow.
