Too many books, too many notebooks, ballpens, pencils, crayons, eraser, scissors and many more-- all pack in one bag. That is a heavy thing, heavier than you grade 1 or grade 3 kid.
Imagine that you child carry the bag heavier than him or her. That is just adding the burden of making assignments, listening to angry teacher and dealing with bullying classmates.
To solve this problem, here are some tips: 1. buy bag that have wheels or trolley bags-- they don't need to carry the bag and they just need to pull it, 2. divide the load of the bag, one for the morning and one for the afternoon, 3. choose the things that are only mostly needed in the school and separate the seldom use.
Any more suggestions?

My daughters were all experiencing that when they're in grade schools. I hated them seeing that way, carrying very heavy bags. When my daughters were in elementary, I suggested in a PTA meeting for a locker of each student to be placed inside the room. Now, they leave their other things in their locker so that they wouldn't be carrying heavy bags when they go home.

Oh, that is a nice move, even public schools should have locker so the pupils won't need to carry their backpacks everyday.

@Macarrosel, I've experience that also during the elementary grades of my boys but I think, lockers were only applicable to private schools when the school of my boys decided to make some lockers for the students and let the things or heavy books be placed inside the lockers so that they won't carry heavy things in coming home.

If the school can afford it, they should have lockers in school where children can leave some of their things that they always need in school.

@ilocosboy Backpack is okay to prevent from having scoliosis. But the heavy load of books are not good for kiddies. Trolley is the best choice.

@ilocosboy So, the loads are not heavy anymore because they are divided in two?

The kids are expected to carry a lot so having wheels is a good idea to help with the heavy load.
