Andy McCullough reports the news on Thursday the Los Angeles Dodgers have placed their left handed starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the 15 day disabled list with a herniated disc on his lower back. It is not clear when Kershaw will return to his starting pitching role since the good news is that his injury will not require surgery which could have sidelined him a for a long period of time in the 2016 baseball season. The Dodgers made a trade with the Atlanta Braves sending left handed pitcher Philip Pfeifer and right handed pitcher Caleb Dirks, for Braves right handed pitcher Bud Norris, outfielder Dian Toscano, a player to be named later and cash considerations on Thursday. Norris will replace Kershaw as the starting pitcher for Dodgers for the time being until Kershaw has fully recovered from his back injury that will keep him from pitching for the National League in the 2016 Major League Baseball All Star Game on July 12, 2016 at Petco Park in San Diego California.

Sounds like some bad news for the Dodgers. I hope he's able to come back to baseball when expected.

Me too. Clayton is one my favorite baseball pitchers in the Major Leagues today.

This is dire news. His hopes of another Cy Young Award are all but gone now. I like the Bud Norris trade which should have been made regardless of Kershaw. However, the Dodgers have got to stop fooling around and trade for Sonny Gray and Julio Teheran.

Losing Clayton is a huge blow to the Dodgers. I agree with you that the Dodgers should trade some of their players to get better starting pitchers on their team.
