Diary Wednesday 29th June 2016

I got up early, about 6am, to start disposing of my old bed mattress before putting my brand new one on my bed. As it would go out in the garden in the rain to await taking to the tip my mum had insisted that I put the old one entirely in plastic bin liners, though none were big enough to fit round it. I purposely did the job before she got up to avoid continuous impatient earache while getting the task completed. Rather than mummify it intact, I cut through the mattress with big scissors and stripped it entirely off its frame, filling three bin bags with the foam. I took the bags and the frame out to the bins.
I started unfurling the new mattress which unfolded and expanded as I did so, and it fitted nicely where the old one had been.
I caught up on my job hunting, and got a phone interview for a finance-blog writing company. They like me and they are asking their parent company in Abu-Dhabi if they should call me in for future interviews – impressed that I am being talked about in the Near East.
Checking my pages on Mylot I somehow accidentally deleted one of my recent diary pages. I will leave it a short time and repost it at some point to keep the diaries complete. It would be good if Mylot had some kind of recovery option for deleted pages or unblocking friends we might have accidentally blocked.
The rest of the day was quite uneventful.

I usually buy the mattresses with springs, so cutting one up would not be an option. As a rule I use the heavy plastic cover off the new one, which gets rid of both items at once.
If I remember correctly the council now charges for disposing of such items.

such charges are why so many mattresses just end up in the canals @Asylum there is only the wire frame to be tipped now - the stuffing just went in the bin in sealed bags and taken by the bin men

@arthurchappell I remember that the council would allow 2 or 3 free collections per year before charging, but began charging for every one a few years ago.
When I had laminate flooring fitted in my 2 bedrooms I took up the carpet and cut it into manageable pieces. I then paid the floor fitters £20 to dispose of it.

I need to buy a new mattress; my current one has definitely had it (I actually inherited it). It's a really good one, though (it's pocket sprung), and to get a comparable one would cost a lot. Possibly over £1,000. Which is a lot of money to spend on a mattress.

Sounds like you had a great day. I would like to see some kind of recovery button as well.

Ah, one of those bed in a bag mattresses from Amazon? We have one in a spare room, I was surprised how nice it was. I agree, I wish there was a recovery here, and have whined before I wish we could see a list of whom we have blocked.
