Familiar Face of the Moon: Why Always the Same Side?

I've always wondered: does the same side of the moon always face the earth?
I read that this coordinated motion exists because the moon spins on its axis in precisely the same length of time that it takes to revolve once around the earth.
Amazing orbital motions between the moon and the earth locked in step because of gravitation and friction. Have you wondered about that, as well?
