Switching to Consumer Cellular and the sudden death of my cell phone

It was an inconvenient time, the day before my trip to Portland this week. I guess it had given up after I dropped it recently. I took my wife's phone with me, so we could communicate in case of emergency (she has a Voice Over Internet service at home).
That part worked out alright, then I had to call the store where I work part-time and let them know how to reach me until my new phone is in service.
Since our contract with Verizon just ran out, my wife wants to try Consumer Cellular, no contract and about $100 less per month, with less data usage and plenty of minutes (I think). That is where my new android phone is coming from, 4G and all that but pretty cheap. I am glad that there is a 45 day trial period on the service and the phone as well. I am keeping the same number too.
Does anyone have experience with Consumer Cellular?

no sir, but'd sure be interested to know how't works fer ya. i jest got notice that effective the 1st 'f august, my phone'll no longer be viable 'n i'll be forced to switch to at&t since they bought out our home town net provider i've'd fer years.
i'd no contract, aint'd fer years. added my momma 'nto my plan some years back. she's prone to breakin' phones, so's they made her sign a contract. under this new change, the letter says if'n we get out 'fore the 1st 'f august, there'll be no penalty (hers) 'n i'm seriously thinkin' 'f consumer cellular myself.
i like not 'avin' a contract 'n keepin' my number i've'd fer years. sadly i'll need to purchase a new phone coz mine's nearly 12 years ol'n aint compatible with any service providers, lol.

They have some pretty good phones available. Have you looked at their website?

@JamesHxstatic no sir, but need to. momma'n i've plans to go to sears this next week. we're jest relieved that she can get outta her contract without payin' a penalty. at&t aint got a plan similar to mine, 't'd cost nearly $50 more per month! ridiculous what these folks can get by with, eh?

Nope. I have Verizon, but when my contract is up (yes, I still have one), I'm going to try their "generic" subsidiary. They use all the same towers and everything, but it's cheaper. The name is "Total Wireless". It's like a super secret. Shhh.

Consumers has nation wide coverage too due to leases from major carriers.

No experience with Consumer Cellular here but I'll be interested to know how it turns out. I use a little flip phone from Cricket for $25/mo, but it's unlimited talk and text only, which is all I want on my phone anyway.
