Did you know that Virginia Beach is the largest city in Virginia and has the world’s longest pleasure beach, an award-winning 3-mile boardwalk, a cosmopolitan downtown, over 35 miles of ocean and bay beaches and the most visited nature park in the state, with over 3 million people visiting this marvelous resort town every year?
Some friends and I will be headed to Virginia Beach for a week in October. My family owns a time-share unit there and October is a GREAT time to go. The weather is still nice and the big crowds are gone.
There’s a NEW EXHIBIT at the Virginia Aquarium we want to see.
Each year the world produces more than 300 million pounds of plastic and less than 10% is recycled. A lot of this plastic ends up in the ocean and endangers marine life. This exhibit, titled “Washed Ashore,” which we plan to visit this year, features items that used to be trash. You can view it at the Virginia Aquarium web site.
There is also a WAVE STATUE that we will see at the Laskin Road Roundabout. It’s a 35-foot-tall metal structure, made of marine-grade steel, weighing 15,000 pounds, recently installed to commemorate the city’s 50th anniversary. It’s taller than a three-story building and sits in a shallow pool of water that cascades over the edge. At night, it is illuminated by colorful LED lights.
Have you ever been to Virginia Beach? We can see this pier from our balcony.
