Suddendeath poetry Challenge: Boom!

July 2, 2016 7:03am CST
Welcome to this weekend’s Suddendeath poetry challenge, Boom! Anyways, rules are as follows, write a poem in any style using the five words that I give you. Write it in one sitting or in under an hour (only to quash your inner editor, rules are loose there). Add it here, OR link in a comment so we can enjoy each other’s poems. The words can be in any plurality or tense. Today’s words are boom, fire, lights, summer, pie. My entry is below: ------------------------------------------------------- Red white and blue, booming in the sky Just as American as things like Apple Pie Summer heat rolling over like waves, Turning lights down power to save. Despite heat fires are going for grilling With coolers nearby and drinks a chilling. BBq’s and parties going this weekend, I gotta work so probably can’t attend. Fireworks I can still watch them fly From my back porch over the trees up in the sky. *sorry for non-Americans, this is my tribute to our Independence day*

fire, lights, As the hours tick by this summer day, I know the 'boom' of fireworks is on the way. Since we are in a drought and things are dry, Instead of fireworks I'll make a pie. The only fire I'll see is the one in my husband's eyes, They tend to light up when he sees his prize. Note: Not sure where I was going with this, but heck, it's a holiday weekend so I don't plan on thinking too much!

Summer pie is peach for me; stars are my summer lights, fire keeps darkness, when it finally comes, at bay. Boom, the noise which distracts me.

@Jessicalynnt Anne had just made a wonderful peach cobbler, so it sprang to mind easily. I cannot get enough of peaches and nectarines in the summer.

it's a big deal, more so in Texas, then again, Texans will use ANY excuse to light fireworks, you will even see people doing that for Christmas. they say they are trying to hit santa...

@Jessicalynnt - Your Challenge @JolietJake - Your poem Boom ! went JJ You never know about a guy whose poem lights up the summer sky. "Boom" his crusty words, yet neat - a prune pit pie (real hard to eat), Words shooting out, ink all color. JJ's stuff is never duller. A fire storm of words assembled, an almost-poem. (One near-resembled). And on this second of July, I wrote this nonsense - don't know why.

Fireflies shimmer and spread their light Amidst the darkness of a warm summer night. While high up in the sky The moon is a big shiny pie, My heart goes boom , entranced at the sight.

I shall give it a skip - but it is nice to read about how all the celebrations look in a poem
