Donating Your Body to Science? Would You Do It?

Recently, I saw a report about this subject. The report indicated that quite a few people donate their body to science upon their death. It is sometimes called a “Willed Body Program,” in some medical schools. The person would have to put it in their will, in other words. Medical schools have various programs for this to be carried out, because of the need to have cadavers for research and education of student doctors. While being a rather gruesome subject for many, it was pointed out that there is also a financial benefit involved for the family of the deceased, since the funeral costs are eliminated. There is sometimes a small charge to transport the body to the medical school but other than that, no cost is involved for the cremation afterwards and the family does receive the ashes at a later date. I understand the need for human bodies in med schools, but I certainly wouldn't donate my body even if people ask me to. How about you?

Many people are doing that also. It's certainly a personal decision.

I've known several people who have done this and I intend to do so. I live in a university town, so it's fairly common here.
