Glass Island? Quay Road? Manor House?

Still doing research, MIGHT have found a possible ancestral home. It's all hearsay but then isn't much of history anyway? Someone else's research says that my tenth great grandmother on my father's side? Her father was wealthy. A glass maker and had a "grand estate". According to this person's research? His will stated that fifty years after his death someone was to go find the descendants of his only daughter. If a certain amount were found, the estate would fall to their hands. That number wasn't met, and so Ireland took the home over and it was later turned into an orphanage. According to the person's research it still is today. They gave no link or inkling of where the home was located. I did some side research and found documentation. Documentation that seems to be from thsi long ago ancestor. Anyway, with that info I narrowed it down and *think* I might have the home, this "grand" estate. Now I've to find info on the home itself to see if it is plausible. The home looks as if it was built in that era but I don't know much about the architecture of Ireland either so we shall see. Oh but as for Glass Island? Supposedly that was the place to where this ancestor lived. However it was in quotations and made me think that perhaps it wasn't so much the actual place but a name coined because of the man's occupation. There is a Glass Island but is in County Mayo and my ancestors are of County Antrim. Without looking at a map, I believe County Mayo is on the west side of Ireland? County Antrim is North East.

At the very least, it is to me. Though I doubt everyone would agree. I've no family to share this with. I've my mother's side, but this research for my father's side. They arent' as interested in it because of that.

How old is the research? Funny thing about history and research: As you mentioned, so much of history is hearsay.

Only a few years old. I wish they would give more references so that I can fact check for myself.

I hope you find what you want to find. My greatgrant parents on my father“s side were very wealthy. WWI destroyed the wealth. Now, from what I know, there are pictures of a 3 story great mansion surrounded by a park. One of my uncles, I think, lives in the cotagge that used to be the park keeper“s cottage. I like the picture of the house, but I would not want it even if they gave it to me.

It must be bittersweet for this uncle to gaze at the house each day and now he can't have it. It's peculiar how the measurement of wealth changes so swiftly.
