Plastic as garbage is everywhere and it's harmful to our environment. That's why the government of Madagascar has partially banned the production of plastic and its uses. It's their effort to reduce pollution and waste caused by it.
As an alternative, bags made of cassava starch that contains no polyethylene are being introduced. The break down of these bags only takes 3 to 6 months, unlike the typical plastic bags that take100 plus years to break.
Cassava bag production increases and likely to be adopted by other African and Asian countries.
Do you believe this is an effective alternative solution for protecting our environment?

Yes. Cassava bags if they provide a good solution to this problem it should be encouraged. Can you post a picture of this bag? I just want to have a look at it.

I'm sorry, I can't find a photo of it, which is free to share. But I will continue looking for a good photo to post here.

Certainly something needs to be done. Plastic is not only building up on land but isn't there an "island" of plastic floating in the ocean somewhere?

I hope it helps. There are always people who don't care. We had someone this spring start dumping stuff on the side of our undesignated road. I wasn't too happy about the illegal dumping and made a lot of public noise about it. It did stop. Hopefully they were afraid we'd get their license plate number even though they were being sneaky.

It was almost two years that the use of plastic even in establishments was banned here in our place. So people carry eco bags which are reusable or they have to carry their groceries in paper bags or cartons. Those found violating will be fined Php 1,000. Preventing the use of plastics is one of the best ways to help save the environment.
