I have one young colleague who is very matured in his thinking.
He is a fresh graduate, and he basically saves up more than half of his income.
He learns about stock investing, and he is not afraid to seek advice.
Though he always chooses the right stocks to buy because he takes the time to analyze the stocks, and he takes the time to read the forums, and blogs, he always buys at the wrong time.
I advise him to exercise patience.
When he wants to go for vacation, he is not willing to spend money on it, so he chooses the nearest and cheapest.
His budget is just a week of his salary for a yearly vacation.
He has no love for car or other luxuries. He works hard to the point of staying back to midnight when necessary.
I tell him: At this rate, you can retire at 40.
His reply: I am not so ambitious, I am for 50.
It sure is very refreshing to meet matured young people like him.
If we have more of such young people, the future of our country is very bright.

@sunilparthan Some people are just naturally cautious.
You can see it in children, though girls are more likely to be careful than the guys.

I envy this guy you speak of, but not every one is good at stocks. You can advice him but it's up to him to take the risk, you have understand if he keeps investing at the wrong time then fear kinda strike at him. he's very practical, that's something most people should be these days.

@Letranknight2015 I think 20 years later, he will become the management of a large company.
His name will be featured in many magazines.

He is smart enough to make his own decisions.
There is no need for me to guide him, though we always discuss about current affair and the impact on our investments.
He is highly educated, and he is smart and matured.
People like him will go very far in life.

If more people realized they don't need a ton of luxury items, more would be able to retire early or at least have more save for retirement.

I think for my young colleague who is a high flyer in the company, and with his maturity and his ability to grasp the big picture, there is no doubt that he will be very rich and successful in the future.
Perhaps after he reaches 40, he will get his income from sitting on the board of many listed companies as a director.
He can make possibly a quarter million just by attending a few meetings, and advising the companies on the path forward.

He sure enjoys life.
A week of his salary is enough to buy him an air-ticket out of country, and a few nights of hotel.
His salary is not that low though this is his first job.
He is a high flyer at work. No surprise here, since he is really smart, solid and very hardworking.

Actually for us in Singapore, we live a very long life compared to Philippines.
We are just behind Japan in term of longevity.
40 years old is actually a bit too young for retirement, but then when a person is rich enough to retire, and choose to continue working, the stress is not that great.
