Wanting to Relocate: Applying for Work

I am thinking about a possible relocation (if I can get the money together, as I'd like to visit the place a few times before deciding to make sure I enjoy it). How do you all go about looking for a job in such situations? Do you look/apply BEFORE you make the decision or do you do it after? I know you'd need to be there for interviews, etc but also, I always thought you needed an address from the state in which you are applying for the job (ie if I am applying to work in Florida (for example) I'd need to have a Florida address). How does the community think the best way to go about it is, especially with so much information being online now. I know most places want you to apply online for a job and don't do paper applications at all anymore.

I think that it would be smart to visit the place for a week and make sure that you like it first.
