familiar faces

I've come to the conclusion that there are only about twenty-five different faces in the entire world. It could be slightly higher. It could also be slightly lower. Your genes will determine which nose you're given, the eyes you see through and the shape of your chin, but the pot of faces and facial parts is not bottomless and so you will have to share some features with a million {or two, or three} other folk.
This fits in with the theory of a common ancestry; how can we fail to look alike when we share an abundance of rich heritage and cheeky genes?
But why have I come to this decision?
Because it's Taster Week at work and all the new baby students look exactly the same as last year's students. Last year's students looked exactly the same as the previous year's. And the previous year's looked the same as the previous previous year's. And so on, into infinity and beyond.
It can be uncanny at times, spookily so. I feel as if I already know them. Maybe I do ... maybe my life-cycle is on repeat, a broken record which keeps turning and eventually jumps back to the start. Or, maybe none of us are as unique in looks as we think. Strip us all down to the bare bones and we're all ridiculously similar.
