I have to teach 2 sections of 70 students each. So, totally about 140 students. The duration will be one semester, that is six months. In that six months, there will be exams, tests and so the actual class will be about. After four months, next semester, another 140 students will come. So, I am finding it difficult to remember the names of students. Any teachers here? How about your experience? Do we have to remember their names?

because when other teachers can talk about a student and his ability by refering his name, I will not be able to think of that student. for example, " Rahul scored 90%, he will be active in the class" I cannot make out' who exacltly is Rahul'

I mean you don't have to but you'll probably realize that it is easier to remember some of their names then you think it is. I got a small college with about a thousand students and I know everyone by name and that includes all of the professors and staff members. The professors and staff members also know are names. Showing that you know them by name shows that you care more as well. Students learn better if they know the teacher or professor actually care.
