What is THIS all about ?

Yesterday I sent one of my good MyLot friends a link to the portfolio page I just now started on another website.
The purpose of that portfolio page is to hold onto the many articles and dumb poems that I write and post both here and elsewhere on the Internet. Someday I might want to put some of them together into an E-book sort of thing - and it would be really convenient to have the separate items all stored together in one convenient place, sort of like an offline backup deal.
My friend clicked on the link I had provided to that portfolio.
Instead of the portfolio pages showing up for her, all sorts of other stuff came onto her computer screen. Well, I understand that sometimes "things" happen in computerland. A comma is clicked on the keyboard instead of a period. The "s" key gets hit with the pinkie finger instead of the "a" key - things like that...
No. She got all sorts of stuff returned to her screen when she hit that portfolio link - but they all had something to do with me and some of my prior activity elsewhere on the Internet - websites with which I had communicated and that had my name stuck into their records somewhere. Some of those were Internet places I had not visited for quite a few years, too. I could not understand the "why" or the "how" of this strange stuff.
So, I tried that link to my portfolio again, myself. It worked just as nicely as the sun might rise in the east every morning instead of rising in the west, the north, or the south.
I thought, "What is THIS all about?"
When I awakened this morning, I tried the portfolio link once again. It worked just fine.
So, I thought that maybe others of the crowd of MyLot friends might care to take a look and to see what that link will bring to their screens. Here it is. At the moment, there are only three "dumb poems" sitting at the end of that link (I hope). If you decide to have some fun with this link, I hope that you will not get all out of sorts with me for trashing the Internet with my doggerel rhymes. Keep smiling, be happy, and if you find out any mysterious facts and rumors about me, let me in on the stuff, OK?
Here is the rest of the story: A "URL" link contains text. That text is composed of an address somewhere on the Internet. The address is composed of several parts, one of which might be text naming a person, a place, a thing, etc. If you type the "URL" into the area on your page screen that calls up one of the search engines, such as Google for example), the search engine will "find" the Internet address for you all right and then go on to find other Internet addresses that contain the remaining items you type in.
As an example of what is going on, take this URL as being what you type into that search engine request spot instead of the Internet address request spot:
http://mylot/writer/your-name
Appearing on your screen will be reference to MyLot, perhaps to "writer," and whatever it can find on the Internet related to yourname. You will NOT get linked to some page out there on the Internet that happens to be called "your-name" inside some folder called "writer" which is part of "mylot." Your screen may light up with all sorts of references to "your-name" - perhaps even page after page of it.
Big difference. Lesson that I learned - Stick URLs into the correct place on your screen if you want to be taken to the Internet page called for by that URL. Even if you type the URL in perfectly, it won't work the way you want it to work should you stick it in the wrong place.

@msiduri - Hi Ms Siduri - Good thought. However, the portfolio is open to the public, so membership is not necessary. In any event, why would all of that other stuff show up that has nothing to do with the portfolio or with the website on which the portfolio sits? I am really puzzled. Thanks for your kind response to this posting.

@Hatley - Ms Patsie - At your age and mine, we need to be careful of what goes into our coffee. Glad I am that all has worked out OK.
One thing that I have noticed here on the Mill Otter website is that if you do not keep on keeping on, sometimes the website logs you off - and then there will be NO response choices showing on any discussions that remain on your screen, even when you are logged out of MyLot.

@Hatley - Ms Patsie - I will absolutely guarantee that I have NEVER blocked you from my discussions nor from any commenting, here on the MyLot place or anywhere else in the world. I cannot imagine what gave you the idea that I did.
Anyway, I just looked at my "Following" files here on the website just to make sure that it has not been changed from earlier days - and it shows that I am following you, that you are not blocked, and that I have not sent you any messages nor received any from you.
Here is a copy of that so you can see for yourself...
