Giving Back to Community

This weekend there is one lecture on giving back to the society. And the community here asking for suggestion. I have no idea of my own so thinking how'd you give back in a city you live in. We have few problems that need to be solved. Need all the help distributively that we can do. Is it by donating food and sources to the people who need them? Is it by donating time and money? I am open to ideas. Just not sure how I personally proceed in such type of tasks. I have few ideas in mind like helping financially. But that being said, other things need to be done as well.

Better to know the most urgent problem that needed to be solved and focus on that :)

One thing I see a need for in my community, and I'm sure it is needed in many communities, is people helping the elderly or people on very low income repair their homes. It could be repairing steps, porches, roofs, installing siding, etc. Or even helping with lawn care, trimming trees, etc.

That's a good idea. I'd definitely put that point across. Thanks :)

I like the idea of helping older people taking care of their yards.

One thing you could do is sit with an elderly person at the nursing home, sometimes they have no visitors at all and that's a really sad thought. Or visit someone in the hospital that doesn't get visitors, there are plenty of them. Or find a homeless person that really needs to eat today-buy them a burger or something. Little things really add up.

Excellent idea. Older people in nursing home really appreciate a visit and a little treat.

I think spending time with needed is precious than donations.

@skysnap shades too from the thick leaves of these trees are beneficial that is why i dislike those loggers who cut trees indiscriminately.

I think helping somebody without the use of money and materialistic aspects can also help in giving to the community. :)

I think it depends on what they need. Last year, we visit an orphanage. They have enough food and other sources. What they need is money. Hence, we just donated money to them.

I see. In that case we have to ask people and decide.

Reduce, reuse and recycle. If any community can do this it will be a great way of giving back a clean, healthy and green environment to the city and its people. We have a lovely waste management system here put into place by the residents of my locality. We have set up days for picking up recyclable waste, donating recyclable waste to those who reuse them and helping people to converting waste to compost.

There are many ways a person can give back. The best place to start is look into the volunteer centers. I'm sure they will have ideas for you.

It's a hard one really as different communities all have such very different needs, I suppose the best way would be to take a look round and see where your help may be needed

Yes that is indeed good.

I think it's according to the situation, some donate food, some help out at centers for the homeless, schools and hospitals. or if you have money donating it to a needy family, doing yard work for a disabled person and so many other things.
@skysnap (20152)

yes that sounds like a good option.

How about financing the education to the economically weaker section of the society. Todays child is the future of the nation. You can try and help the young ones .

We already have that setup here in community. I usually arrange the stationary and video lectures.
