Chelsea Janes reports the news the Washington Nationals have placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15 day disabled list with a strain on his left rib cage which is retroactive to July 7, 2016. The Nationals have also sent their pitcher Louis Giolito to their AAA minor league team the Syracuse Chiefs on Friday. The Nationals have promoted from their AAA minor league in Syracuse shortstop Trea Turner and outfielder Michael A Taylor to replace Zimmerman and Giolito on their 25 man active roster. The Nationals decided to send Gioloto to their minor league team in Syracuse since they are in need of extra reserve players on their team this weekend when the New York Mets host their National League East Division rivals at Citi Field in New York City before the Major League Baseball All Star Game that will be played in San Diego California on July 12, 2016. The Nationals are keeping their fingers crossed that Zimmerman is able to return to the team when is eligible to come off of the 15 day disabled list since he is one of their most valuable players on their team.

The Nats have got to have the services of Zimmerman in a hot playoff race. They using the All-Star break as part of his DL time to get him ready for the second half.
