Childhood Play Kitchen

July 9, 2016 8:20am CST
I remember playing with my little toy kitchen, with a mom, a dad, and the real live me, in the imagery of my little world. My little toy kitchen was the world to me. I played with my tea cups, saucers and cutlery. These items were my only toys I had. Now if I were to be asked why this childhood item was very important to me, I would probably say, it was to compensate for my Dad's being away on a job overseas. Growing up, I had missed my Dad. Then, my Mom followed him and left me and my other siblings with grandparents. I never heard of my little toy kitchen after that. We lost the set when we moved to a bigger apartment. I grew up, and dolls were sent to me and my sisters from my parents from overseas-- replaced my little toy kitchen that had a mom and a dad. What about you? Describe an important item from your childhood. And why did you cherish it? Where is it now?

I had a little fighter plane I'd fly around the school in first or second grade. It was about 2 1/2" long. It was my tiny security blanket. Not sure where it wound up. I'm sorry your kitchen disappeared. Sometimes the grown-ups don't realize how important certain toys are to us. You can't just "buy another," especially when it's something like a stuffy.

@everwonderwhy I think it's in my blood. This one may have been a Phantom. Later, my dad and I would make WWII models together. My favorite was the British Spitfire, though liked P-51 Mustangs as well.

Thank you, @TheHorse Wow! Fighter plane. One of the toy F16s? In college, a close friend gave me his one of his model planes he assembled. I still find IDF fighter planes awesome.:-) What made you very interested to play with fighter planes?

It's so nice that you had a play kitchen when you were young, though I think you really missed your parents when you were young. My parents did not like to buy us toys and preferred us to read more, so we have lots of books to accompany us when we were young. I still remember I had a small cloth doll and a few small kitchenware that I can really light up the candle and cook the leaves. These are the toys I remember having when I was young. I don't know where they are now, perhaps my mom has thrown them away.

I had a few dolls.. but I was always excited by some tiny kitchen ware my mom had.. those tiny utensils became my playthings when mom was away. Finally to keep me from playing with the real stuff she bought me a kitchen set.. not very pretty but meant a whole lot to me.

@sofs They were hours of joy, weren't they? We still continue to cherish them. :-) The little things our parents did for us because they want us to be happy in life. Same thing we do for our children today.
