Job hunt after 30?

Philippines

My friend and I find some time to chat over anything, especially using Messenger and other social media platforms. Recently, our topic revolved around jobs and careers. Naturally, it was a more of exhanging notes but what made it quite different was she did say that she might stop job hunting if she ever reaches 30. She gives a lot of reasons - age, being a woman, and also the skill set she brings to the table. I quite understand her view and especially, in today's job market. However, this view also seems like giving up. Life goes on after 30 and she might still need income to support herself. This view really made me think about myself and my prospects if that ever come. It would be nice if the work can always continue but sometimes, it really hard to find an dmain work nowadays. Do you think my friends view is too cynical? or its just the reality of times?

Unfortunately, that is the way the majority think over there in the Philippines.. They even consider women who are still single in their 30s as "old maids" .. and even if they are only in their late 20s .. It is terrible that they don't value the work experience and the skills we accumulate as we grow older.. Because over there it's all about the looks.. Here in Australia, people are valued for their ability and not for their age and definitly not for their looks ..

Hi Bess. You are right. it is the unfortunate truth. A lot of employers often overlook experience and even commitment to the job. I know some people who have low-level skills, but they are very committed and they want tot to learn a lot. Sadly, a lot of employers ask first for experience and often don't give leeway for cnadidates who might turn into a great asset. My friend is considering putting up her own business if she doesn't have the luck in finding a new job, but she prefers she can have another job before going into that venture.
