Can't the Government provide free education to its people?

There are many countries where the education is provided free of cost to the people. Providing free education is the minimum thing any government can do as it does not involve any expenditure other than meeting the salaries of the teachers. The establishment costs will be a one time investment. If this facility is not provided to the people as a matter of right any schemes that may be introduced by the Governments in the various names to its people do not carry any meaning. Unfortunately, this is what that is absent in India. Though there is an act providing free and compulsory education to all Children, the spirt of the Act is totally being diluted. There are as many as subsidiary rules and orders encouraging the Private Institutions who make a roaring business with the education. There are no sincere efforts on the part of the Governfment to discourage the private educational institutions. The Governments are not even taking any bold decision to dispense with the system private Educational Institutions . As long as there is no sincere and serious effort from the Government side, all paper orders, Acts, and Rules issued will serve only as tongue cleaners. Do you have free education in your country?

The education is free in my country since the 19th C, from kindergartens to colleges included. We have also private schools, mainly denominational ; they receive subsidies from the state permitting them to be very cheap. There is absolutely no reason to discourage them : the interest of the state is to have an educated population and to let the choice of the school to the parents. I did all my studies in public schools and colleges. In front of my public high school there was a private high school, and the worst students were often crossing the street to avoid a grade repetition. The academic success rate was exactly the same on both sides of the street.

Why a private school again? is the question now. If they are really sincere they can dispense with the private schooling at least to some college level.

In Spain, the education is free until secondary. The only you pay is an inspcription fee which is a small amount and the material you will need during the course. In my opinion, even the books should be free. The university instead is very expensive and many people cannot afford to study a carreer.

We have but it is not enough because of the population. My country's problem is the opposite of Japan's.
