I remember when I was a little kid, I get to watch some scifi movies from 70's, 80's and 90's. I still remember the over futuristic portrayal of the year 2000 and the year 2015. Now it is already 2016... Still no flying cars and hoverboards, Only people who makes duckface selfies. The picture I embedded is how cops and soldiers looks like in those old movies, comic books and videogames portray cops and soldiers looks like in the scifi movies from the past. It has been 2016 and cops still don't wear those futuristic lightweight bullet proof battle suits that flies. People from the pasts thought our year will be super advanced. When I was a little kid, I thought I will really see armored cops and soldiers when I grow up.

I thought so too when i was watching sci fi movies back in the 80s. I'm a bit disappointed that there's no flying car yet. But the smart phone has come true. Especially video calling.

Video calling from old scifi movies uses large screens like flatscreen tv, You can imagine the dissapointed teenager in me during the real year 2000. I expected too much.

Scientist of today predicted 10 years from now, there will be nanobots. bacteria sized robots that can cure diseases. it makes me wonder if they will work or not.

you are daydreaming. There are some countries still in which the soldiers do not have a proper uniform. You are talking about Cops!!!! At least they are having some pants and shirts. In some states of the countries cops still wear loose knickers and do not have proper shoes. In India, after several deaths , many experiences and protests the Cops were provided some A.Ks to fight against the extremists and Naxalites.

When I was a kid I expected too much because those old movies portrayed the Years 2000 and 2015 as super futuristic years. So Yeah the prediction of the old movies were nothing like they potrayed. This is a childhood nostalgia thread so I am not day dreaming I am aware of the harsh reality. Even rich countries cant afford to give cops bullet proof vests. I am not day dreaming, this is me looking back to my childhood.

I simply have no answers to the increase in police brutalities recently. The news simply portrayed them as trigger happy freaks than their law enforcement obligations.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I wonder if today's journalism has something to do with the social media since my country is now banning news reported from the social media which are believed to be poor journalism and misleading.

I don't know but the media loves to demonize them. We rarely see news that shows good cops doing good even if they exists actually.

@artemeis I remember there is a woman who go her life ruined because her confrontation with a security guard got viral and people thought she is a snob rich girl being rude to a poor guard. To make it worst the news also reported it. She got cyber bullied because of it.
