Henry VIII and his not so ceremonial burial

United States

Atleast not carried out to the ceremonies he'd had wished. King Henry wanted a grand tomb built with many decorations and statements. He also required daily masses and all manner of things necessary to carry out this request. However, none of these things happened. To add insult to injury, the sarcophagus that he had lifted from Cardinal Wolsey? It was not used, nor would be for centuries to come. You can read more about WHY it didn't come to pass at the link here : I can't say I can truly blame his children....
He is one of the most famous kings of England, remembered for marrying six times and for breaking with the papacy in Rome and establishing the Church of England. A king of this magnitude, then, surely

Kig Henry VIII did not have a life that could mean love from his children.

You are right. His pursuit for a heir and his willingness to illegitimize his children definitely didn't make any friends within his family.

@marguicha Yes, it might have been shocking back then too, but I am sure the people understood somewhat because he needed to secure a male heir. Even though making himself head of the Church of England would cause uproar for several generations.

Oh dear, your post is but a tease, like an internet headline. What shall I do?

I am not going to feign that I am good with descriptions. I did the best I could. However, unlike most "teasers" mine was not intentional. I refrained from posting much at all because I couldn't decide just what to post. Nor what questions I might ask to invite conversation. I figured, however, with as many people enjoy the Tudor Period here, I could atleast strike up some sort of conversation.

It's rather interesting to know. King Henry VIII was quite a character.

This time period is probably one of my favorites. King Henry WAS quite a character but he wasn't my favorite of all in this period. I think Elizabeth was quite more interesting and did quite a bit more than Henry ever did. Of course I know that he did make it where he was head of church, and that was a feat in itself.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I recall some years back when I was on a tour of Tower of London and the tour guide pointed to the spot (near where I was standing) where Queen Anne was beheaded. It was quite creepy to say the least.

@succeednow I can imagine the chills you must have felt. I know I'd probably have half leaped away from the spot myself. Though, I'd also be curious to stand in the same spot.

Hmmm, no wonder you know a lot about the medieval ages! By the way, I write funny articles and stories. I am here to entertain like I used to in old Bubblews.

I like that ring that Elizabeth 1 had made. I love and hate history because of all the names look alike. That is some interesting info though.

I have seen his massive tomb inside Westminster Abbey.
