My ex appears on my dreams

Its been years since we parted ways with no closure. I saw him about 4 years ago but never said a word. He was my first love and my first boyfriend. But over the years, without even thinking him, he kept on following me appearing mostly on my dreams. I even wonder what went wrong with me to have that kind of dream. It bothers me but of course I kept it. What does it mean? Could anybody help me?
