Accidental Lesson

In my everyday interaction with my students, there will always be a time that the classroom transforms in a marketplace where students are noisy, loud and disruptive. Raising my voice does help to keep them glued on their seats but that is not healthy. This day, I just gave them quiet signals by counting 1,2, 3. It alerted the students to stop talking. Afterwards, they all closed their mouth and act the way I should want them to act-- a real student. Sitting up straight, eyes on me, mouth closed.
It was the perfect time to teach them a lesson which was not written in my lesson plan.Something that I hope will give a spark within them. I asked them their reasons why they are in the school, what do they want to be after they graduated from their studies. I asked them to reflect on their attitude and if they act in accordance to their dream. As Aristotle said "You are what you repeatedly do. " They should act like the person they would like to become. It is not enough to tell they want this or they want that. They have to act accordingly and study as much as they can to achieve their dreams.
I am not sure if all of them were able to comprehend the life lesson but I hope there are some of them who took those words to their heart.
How was your day? Did you act like the person you wish to become?

Maybe you are still very young. Or perhaps you have too many things that you want and could not choose which of those.

@brokenbee I understand you. It is same with me. I do not know what to prioritize because all of the things I want are of equal importance for me.

I hope they will take your words into their hearts. They own the future, and they must build it well now.

That is great Cristy! What we want to be should always be not in conflict to what we are doing at the present.

Hi @responsiveme! I also have older and more mature students and I teach them as much as I can about education. Just like what I feel with my younger kids, I also feel the same way with my students in college. We have this responsibility towards our students. Their success becomes our success too.

One fellow at the farewell function some years ago said" Mech Madam" would scold us just like our mother, and we will always remember her .I nearly burst out in tears.
We teachers have a great responsibilty, don't you think?

I wished to be an executive and today I acted exactly like that in the signing of contract photo op with one of Ayala Property companies. I was disappointed how they treated their guests but I kept mum, signed the contract, gave a firm hand shake, and left.
