I hate shopping for clothes. Granted, I do most of my shopping at Walmart so my options are fairly limited. But wouldn't you think that Walmart, of all places, would carry clothes that accommodate a woman of my, um, girth? Apparently they don't know their target audience! I admit it. I'm overweight. I'm not a humongous, fat slob. In fact, I've been told I carry my weight well. If you were to see me, you probably wouldn't even think of me as "fat". But that doesn't matter when it comes to clothes. The clothes know I'm fat. I hate shopping even more now that my 11-year-old daughter is getting taller. She has a body type similar to mine. She's not a petite, super-skinny girl. She's a tall, healthy, "normal"-sized soon-to-be WOMAN. And she hasn't owned a pair of jeans in over 3 years because I couldn't find a pair that would fit her! Yesterday I gritted my teeth and decided to take up the challenge: I was going to take my daughter to the store to find some jeans. I figured we'd search for a pair that would actually fit her. We would keep looking until we dropped down dead, if need be. I refused to go home empty-handed! I felt like King Arthur searching for the Holy Grail as we scoured every female clothing section of the store. And I discovered some things as we shuffled through the myriad of "skinny jean" options: (1) If a woman is tall, she must have extremely thin legs. There's no such thing as a big-boned tall lady. (2) If you find the right waist-size then those damn "skinny legs" won't fit or the crotch will hang down to your knees. (3) If you find the right height, then the hip-hugging-waist will turn into the Boa Constrictor of Death. I guess if you could hold your breath for 8 hours they might be worth buying... sigh. I eventually found her a pair. They're too long, but she's rolling up the legs until she grows into them. So here's my shout-out to the clothing industry: You wanna show some diversity? Create clothes that will fit REAL pre-teen girls. And us REAL women, as well. Because we can't all be stick figures!

My short wife complains all the time about the way clothes are made too. It makes it hard to find things.

Now that clothes can be made cheaply and transported quickly I'm surprised someone hasn't started a made-to-measure jeans business, everyone always seems to be complaining they can't get the right size!

That would be a wonderful solution! Could you start one for me?

@Genipher I'm afraid that's just yet another thing I don't really have time for - I need parallel lives : (

@Fleura There have been many times I've wished I could duplicate myself. I could get soooo much more done in life!

I told her I could hem them, but she just wants to roll them up for now. I think she's afraid I'll botch the job...though I DO know how to do it!
