Our niece is 8 tears old tomorrow. Last month she got her birthday gift. Her gift was a miniature schnauzer. So she asked her mom what she was getting for her birthday. Her mom said, Lucy, your daddy isn't tech, we told you yjay your new schnauzer is your birthday present. Just then Lucy asked in a whimpering voice, well, can I at least have a birthday cake. Her mom said of course you ate getting a cake. We will have to wait for Lucy to tell us if she got anything else.
Their daddy makes good money in the army because he is a Lt.. Colonel in rank. But I know they are rather strict too. They want their kids to value money.

Both of my boys hate cake, so I have to travel about 45 miles away to get them a DQ ice cream cake. It has to be DQ too, I tried buying one from the local grocery store and they didn't like it.

I can't blame them for wanting to be strict when it comes to money. My nephew knows the value of money, and I think my niece is starting to do so as well. However, when my niece was a little younger? She was so spoiled and anything went. My brother in law would spend $800 easily on just jewelry for the girl!

@OreoBrownie Very much so! The jewelry I was gifted with at that age was plastic!

That is wonderful that they don't spoil their children and I am glad your niece is going to get her cake, it isn't a birthday without cake. Even those who can't eat regular sugary cake, there are plenty of alternatives. Like I wouldn't mind a cake made from sliced fruit...Yummy!!!

Wow.. It must been sad for that girl, but yes from the other side it's good because later when she'll grow up she will learn the value of money, and how they are made with sweat and honor. Especially as an Army guy as a father.
Dogs are people's best friend, honestly i would rather get a pet for my birthday than some other luxuries. But i must encourage her, because when i was 8 i also wanted people to bring me anything on my birthday.
Happy birthday to your niece

I hope Lucy gets what she wants besides the pet, kids have their own idea of what their birthdays would be like and it is something that they would cherish for the rest of their lives. Money discipline is very important but at that age, it's not yet time to apply the full force.
