So because of my husbands settlement he got, SSI is now taking back every dime of the $5774 and some odd cents of my sons monthly SSI checks. Thank God he's not over 18 or he would have been cut off. They are taking only $74 a month starting in October until it is all paid off. At least it ain't his whole check I guess though. It will take 6 years and 5 months to pay it off and by then my son will be 11 years old. Oh well. Now I have to report income monthly for now. Gotta do what I gotta do I guess. Later!

It does not sound right or fair, but that is what they do.

I thought I read you had solved this. Did they change their mind?

They will take back money unless you challenge it and saying it's too much of a hardship on you. I've done that. Owed over $3000 and I wrote them I got it waved. My SSD check never changed. That was years ago now. I was lost and had no idea what to do.it worked.

I can't challenge it. I already talked to SSI and have no choice but to pay it back. It is what it is

If you owe the money you have to pay it. At least you don't have to pay in one hunk!

Right but they knew about my husbands settlement and still issued the back pay which is screwed up enough
