Carrie Muskat reports the news the Chicago Cubs will activate from the disabled list right handed relief pitcher Joe Nathan. Nathan last pitched one game for the Detroit Tigers in the 2015 baseball season before he was had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow that ended his pitching for the team last year. The Cubs signed Nathan to a one year on May 17, 2016 as a free agent. Nathan had been placed on the 60 day disabled list so he can work on a rehabilitation assignments with the Tennessee Smokies which is the AA minor league team of the Cubs and most recently the Iowa Cubs which is the AAA minor league team of the Chicago Cubs. Nathan will join the Cubs on Sunday but will likely be working as a middle relief pitcher for the remainder of the current baseball season. The Cubs have not decided which player that Nathan will replace on their 25 man active roster yet. The Milwaukee Brewers are hosting the Cubs in a three game series that began on Friday at Miller Park.

Nathan has been around a long time now. We'll see if he's done or has something left.

Nathan will have a chance to pitch at least through this year and hopefully end out on a good note.

I am glad I am not Joe Maddon but I am sure he will either designate for assignment a bench player or send one of his reserve players to the minor leagues.
