Waking Up In A Strange Place

One year, I did a lot traveling. When I woke up in a hotel room, I had to really think about where I was. That year, one of my trips was to San Francisco and the hotel room was on the 5th or 6th floor of a well-known hotel in Union Square, a shopping and dining mecca, within walking distance of China Town.
I woke up to the sound of traffic, horns beeping, and wondered where I was. Then, I turned over in bed, still half asleep and realized that there was a man in the other bed.
What? Who is that? I sat up in bed, blinking my eyes, trying to figure out where I was and who in the world that person was in the other bed. I was totally disoriented and the room was still rather dark.
Then it came to me. It was my son, of course. I had taken him with me on this trip. He was fifteen at the time and fully grown, and under the sheet, he looked like a man. I laughed then, but it surely wasn’t funny when I first woke up.
We enjoyed San Francisco. Although we were circling the airport for a long time, before we landed, because of the fog. However, the weather was absolutely gorgeous the rest of the week. No fog at all. No rain. Just clear blue skies every day and the temperature about 78 degrees. Incredible.
We visited China Town and Fisherman’s Wharf, also Ghirardeli Square. We took the ferry to Sausalito and browsed through several Art Galleries.
We took a bus tour that included all of the San Francisco area and on to Muir Woods to see the Redwood Forest. The tour also included the “Painted Ladies” in the famous Haight-Ashbury district.
This is the well-known “postcard row” of houses and we learned a lot about these beautiful Victorian houses from the bus tour guide who talked through the entire tour about everything. She was very informative.
Our tour also included a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge and Nob Hill. We rode the cable cars, too. There were dozens of street musicians on every corner and we ate lots of delicious food and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
My son just had to go to McDonald’s though, for a hamburger, after all the other fancy food.
I hope to return to San Francisco someday. “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” was one of the songs my mother always liked for me to sing for her.
San Francisco has a lot to offer, so if you’ve never been, put it on your “Bucket List” as one place you’d like to visit before you die.
However, waking up in a strange city, can be mind-boggling. LOL

I earned over 30 FREE trips from the jewelry company I worked for, for my sales and recruiting efforts. San Francisco was one of my favorites in the U. S. But Switzerland was my very favorite.
