Brendan Kennedy reports the news the Toronto Blue Jays made a roster change by designating for assignment outfielder Junior Lake to allow outfielder Jose Bautista back on their 25 man active roster on Monday. Bautista had been placed on the 15 day disabled list with an injury of turf toe to his left foot on June 17, 2016. Lake was designated for assignment since his batting average of .206 in 34 at bats since he was called up from the Buffalo Bisons which is the AAA minor league team of the Blue Jays on June 24, 2016. Lake had been designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles on December 10, 2015. The Blue Jays claimed Lake off waivers on December 18, 2015 to try out to make the Blue Jays roster during spring training but he was sent to Buffalo before the start of the 2016 baseball season. Lake will likely be sent back to the minor leagues since it is highly unlikely there will be any team in the Major Leagues that will be needing his services as a reserve outfielder for the remainder of the current baseball season. Bautista had played in the Blue Jays minor league teams the Class A Dunedin Blue Jays and the Class AAA minor league team the Buffalo Bisons in a rehabilitation assignment before he was called up by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

It wasn't too long ago when Junior Lake was considered a top prospect for the Cubs.

It is a shame that Junior has fallen on hard times after he left the Cubs.
