What is the natujre of your soil?

I had been on a tour with my friend who happened to be an Agriculture Scientist. As I took more delight in knowing things, he asked me while going through the agriculture fields 'Do you know the easiest way to find out whether the soil of Alkaline in nature or Acidic? I said No. Then he took some soil in a container and poured some White vinegar. It got fizzing. Then he said "It is definitely Alkaline". Again he said if you take some soil and add 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of bicarbonate of soda to it and it fizzes then it is definitely Acidic." So, the next time when I visit any agriculture land I will guide the farmer and help him to plant the type of crop he has to grow and what he should not plant.
