Yesterday I happened to eavesdrop a conversation between a student and his newly hired private tutor who was hired to help the student improve his knowledge of English. The student said,'Sir,I have seen a very good grammar book in a bookstore.Should I buy it?' The teacher replied,'Why waste money?....Okay,buy it..but you needn't buy it.I am here to teach you. However you may buy it.' 'Do you mean I shouldn't buy it?' 'Well....',The teacher said after a brief pause,' All right, buy it.But why waste money?I am here to help you.' 'So,Sir....'The puzzled student asked the teacher,'You don't want me to buy it,do you?' 'Okay, buy it,'The teacher said,'But why waste money?' The student lost patience,'Sir,please tell me one thing.Should I buy it or not?' 'One thing?' Replied the teacher,'Don't buy it....I'll teach you grammar....But okay buy it.' Then they left.Don't know whether the student bought the book or not.

I would say he was a very poor teacher. He assumed that he was the font of all knowledge and did not understand that people learn in multiple ways - the book should enhance his teaching.

@pgiblett,Yes,I think so too.The teacher himself was not so sure of his own capabilities, but didn't want to reveal his weakness to his student. He was confused.

As confusing as that was, he might need the book, as the teacher seems....not the best. lol

He doesn't trust his teacher. He would have to look up every word. I'm with the teacher, why was really the money.

English is a very difficult language to learn, and I see many people on myLot who are struggling to use correct sentence structure and proper verbs, but for the most part, they are doing VERY well. I have learned other languages and still get confused on sentence structure. It seems like most other languages are just the opposite of English in the way the words in a sentence are spoken. And in English there are many words that are spelled differently but are pronounced the same and this can be confusing to those who are trying to learn English. What is your primary language. In India there are many languages and you may know how to speak more than one.

@IreneVincent,My mother tongue is Hindi which is the national language of our country India.Apart from Hindi,I can speak my state language Oriya,a little Sanskrit which the oldest classical language of the world and English which I learned in schools. However I don't think English is so difficult.

@IreneVincent Thanks for the encouragement.English is the easiest foreign language for us Indians, because our country had been under British rule for nearly two centuries.I try to improve my knowledge of English, but still commit a lot of grammatical mistakes. Thanks again for boosting my morale.

@else34 I thought that you would be able to speak more than one language. Yes, I've definitely heard of Sanskrit, an ancient language. Your English is excellent from what I've read of your writings on myLot.

The teacher is of course has ensured the student that he would teach grammar. But, he does not want to disappoint the student.

That was really confusing. It seems like the tutor couldn't make up his mind on what the student should do.
