Ignorant people

I always make an effort to seem interested when people talk. Even if I don't care about the topic, it just seems like common courtesy to at least look at the person occasionally? Apparently I don't deserve the same though.

i do the same. When someone is talking even when I"m not interested, I look them in the eye. It's not that I'm pretending. I just don't want to be rude.

@Stitch95 I'm so sorry. That's just so rude. And they're your friends?

@toniganzon Yeah. In fairness to them, it's pretty much the only thing they're bad at in regards to me (they respect that I don't like being touched, they don't deliberately do things they know upset me, we take turns paying for take-out), it's just one that kind of stings a little

I'll admit that I do often have my phone out and flick between it and looking at the person, but that's just because I have a lot of trouble maintaining eye-contact (I always have) so it helps me to have a crutch. But even when I'm not looking at the person, I'll make an effort to acknowledge that I'm listening, and I make sure that I can see if they're TRYING to make eye-contact with me, and I'll look up again straight away. My friends just....don't. They sit and get absorbed in their phones or just zone out completely. I've literally started talking about something completely random mid-sentence and they don't even notice.

I'm sorry I know how that feels and it's a terrible feeling. =( Almost feels like your invisible or just don't matter.

Honestly it's just a common feeling for me right now. No one really sees or hears me at the moment, except on here

@Stitch95 I do understand. Offline I am always the listener and never feel like I am ever heard-which is why I love being here where people do "listen" when I need to talk.

@LovingMyBabies Exactly! I mean, obviously not everyone will read everything, but some people will and might offer words of advice or encouragement. Even if they don't, you don't feel bad about essentially screaming into the void about your problems because no one will judge you for it. It's a nice place to be :)

In respect to them, I also do the same thing. However, I don't spend more time with them. I am so expressive through my face and I don't want them to be offended.

But I bet you make an effort to at least make it clear that you're listening to the person you talk to
