The day I came out of the comfort zone

I was not enjoying what I was supposed to along with my friends when they were all going to the city outskirts on bicycles in a group just for enjoying swimming in the big well located there. There was always a fear in me that I may not do it even if I go along with them and if anything happens what should I do? But, there was always a desire coupled with the persistent determination to learn swimming . Learning swimming at any cost needed a way out to come out of the comfort zone. I gave a serious thought as to why I am unable to learn? Is it because of fear, or no inclination of doing it? It was only the first one that was the main reason. So, how to overcome that fear? I inquired seriously with my friends about my fear. They started laughing. They promised me that they would take care of me if I want to learn swimming. The next Sunday when I moved with them they ordered something which I do not know and understand. We reached the big well and everybody started swimming in undies. I was sitting on the bank and watching them. After 20 minutes a boy came with a big bundle of sticks. Some of my friends stopped swimming and came out. They opened the bundle and tied that around my waist. I was looking at it . I questioned them what it was? They replied that they are dried trunks of drumstick trees and they ordered 10 such sticks in the pack and tying around my waist will not allow me drowning. They gave me a demonstration also and I wore it after I got some confidence. I dipped myself into the water and found that I was quite safe. Within a week I started swimming without those dried trunks and became perfect in swimming. So, this is the fear that made me come out of my comfort zone. As long as you do not leave this 'disease' you can never achieve anything and enjoy the thrill of life. I am grateful to my friends who removed my fear and fulfilled my desire

I admire your great courage and your having such good friends in helping you to learn how to swim and get rid of that fear of being drowned. I have to say that it is out of this very fear that up till now I have not really learned how to swim at all. Each time when I go to the swimming pool, I just soak myself in the water and cannot swim. I am afraid of water getting into my ears and my eyes. I find it hard to breathe when the water gets into my eyes and my ears, I should say when water gets splashed into my face. So long as I cannot overcome this promblem, I will never learn how to swim. Thanks for your nice discussion.
