Another postcard from across the pond

Today I received a postcard from Gatlinburg in Tennessee. Despite never having heard of this township before, I certainly know of the surrounding region since it stands on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Apparently it was named after a resident by the name of Radford Gatlin. At first I thought that I recognised the name, until I realised that I was thinking of Gatling, who famously introduced the Gatling gun during the American Civil War.
It is surprising how much thought such a simple thing like a postcard can stimulate.

I was thinking the other day, that if I end up cruising my retirement, I will send lots of people postcards. I will enjoy keeping the tradition alive, and shocking the bejeezus out of them!

@BelleStarr I hope the two were different because I could not remember which postcard I sent to who the first time.

i like the 360 degree take on this postcard. and reading your post in turn raised this question: if a place was founded in your name, what would you like it to be?

Do you have friends in Gatlinburg who mailed you the postcard? Do you collect postcards from around the world? I've been to Gatlinburg once, it is a beautiful place!

@Asylum In my younger days, I used to collect postcards from all the places I travelled to. It's been a while since I've done that, maybe I should start collecting postcards again!

@Asylum That's great to hear! It's a more personal touch when you send a postcard, in my opinion!

They were not colorful when I was there, just green, but all green makes for a less exciting card so I was unable to find any.

@Asylum wow! And I skipped mailing it the day before when I was in Pigeon Forge and waited until I found a post office in Gatlinburg. At least it was postmarked Tennessee!
