Did Adam and Eve die on the very "day" of their disobedience to God? (Genesis 2:16,17; 2nd Peter 3:8)

What do you think? How would you explain this to someone when the scripture at Genesis 5:5 says that Adam died at 930 years of age? In what sense did he, his wife, his offspring and future generations "die"?

My quick answer is that he did not die on that day. God told him that he would have to toil to live and God put an angel with a sword to keep Adam and Eve from eating from the tree of life. Therefore, they were cast out of the garden to struggle on their own.

Even we as their children are struggling now. Is it not right?

@akalinus we're all in the same boat when it comes to the ill effects of Adam and Eve's sin (Romans 5:12)
