I was very saddened to hear of the death of longtime Weather Channel on-air meteorologist Dave Schwartz today.
Schwartz died from stomach cancer, five months after announcing on air that he had been diagnosed with the disease. He had previously successfully been treated for pancreatic cancer, then another bout of pancreatic cancer that had spread to his lungs.
Dave Schwartz was a great on-air meteorologist at the Weather Channel. As Jim Cantore said in a tribute, Schwartz was funny. He rarely stuck to a script, interjecting his commentary with the forecasts. My favorite memory of him was one night about 15 years ago. When talking about the oppressive heat wave, Schwartz looked at the temperatures on the map and said, "Man, oh, man, oh, Manischewitz, what a wine."
He'll be missed.
