go forth and multiply

My littlest {but biggest} brother became a married man yesterday, indulging not only in cheesecake {oh my goodness, I've just realised we left with NO cake!!}, sweet homemade lemonade and looks of adoration, but also in TWO ceremonies. Let me repeat that for those whom are hard of hearing ... TWO ceremonies.
This was the wedding I was in two minds about going to.
{brief synopsis - i have cut my Father out of my life, this brother is his child by the woman he left my Mumsy for, he's definitely a tad mental, that's the man who gave me life, not the brother, although maybe he is too}
I was only slightly nervous. Yesterday was a good day, mind-wise, for me. I managed to completely blank the bloke, and it was far easier than I had been anticipating. He didn't seem too upset about it and I was happy, so all was good with the world. The only downside was my step-grandmother having a grumble about family not talking. I just let her ramble on and get it off her chest ... she's ninety-one years old, bless her.
But the upsides? Bubbles, catching up with step-sisters and step-nieces/nephews, spending time with Baby Brother {not littlest, this one is full-bloodied} and his partner, cheesecake, Husband completely understanding the Father thing, bless him, becoming merry on nothing but Schloer, a cringe-worthy Best Man speech, and - perhaps most importantly - the fact that it was all over by two-thirty in the afternoon.
Four of us went to the pub for some much needed alcoholic refreshment.
So, why the two ceremonies? Because following the one in the church, the legal one with the registrar present and the exchanging of rings, the Bride and Groom went down to the London Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here they were sealed for all eternity, for ever and always, in a secret ceremony with only worthy {that's adult(?) Mormons who have been through the temple endowment or whatever it is} family and friends present to witness it. It's all secret handshakes, new names and green aprons.
I hope they are very happy. I hope she hasn't married him because he can be a replacement dad to her children from a previous Mormon marriage. I hope that it's love and not convenience. I hope they have many happy years of blissful marriage ahead of them, with a few babies thrown in for good measure.
Because that's what it's all about ... babies. Family. Being fruitful. Multiplying.

@Poppylicious I think we're technically 'allowed' to take the mick out of mormons because legally they're a sect rather than a religion - or something like that. Obviously it's better not to upset them just in case their god and their angels are badass SOBs who can put us all in our place.

I think they are 'normal'! They just get very defensive when you question their religion because all the negative stuff isn't true. Which is odd because I'd expect the negative comments to be balanced by the positive, from people who left the church but don't think their little rituals are odd. It's not.

Very complicated. Too many half-siblings, grandads who might be great-grandads really and family feuds whichever way you turn. At least it's entertaining. Sometimes.

Absolutely agree on the world being too crowded. But that's Mormons for you ... they need lots of babies to be born so that they continue to have followers.
