I have one of two reactions, sometimes used in combination. I'll either confront the person and politely ask them to stop or I will keep all communication to a minimum.

It takes me a while to get out of a situation like this. It usually starts with me feeling sorry for someone and wanting to help them, then as time goes on l realise that it's all one way and the 'can you do me a favour' line is happening far too often. People who take advantage are persistent and hard to get rid of but you have to learn to say no.

If I can use them back, fine. If it isn't mutual, I'll do my best to make it so.
Or just leave perhaps. That's how it works in life though, "Sweet Dreams are made of this, bla bla".

The moment I feel that someone is using me, be it friends or family, I'll immediately dump that person, ignore and avoid him/her at all costs.

I myself hate being taken advantage of. It is really annoying and I always feel offended. To tell the truth, I don't like to unfriend people, but sometimes it is really necessary to do that. Well, I will try at first to discuss the problem with the respective person and if they don't like to listen to me I will have no choice but to unfriend them.

I would understand myself stupid for this. And rather then wasting time to justify things, I would just move on . And for the future, I would surely keep such things in my mind.
Last but not the least , I would let them feel their mistake with my absence.
