Using a Stopper Watch to Measure Times

I have decided to get more efficient with the time so I started measuring it when doing things. I think we can all help each other in saving time with tips, how to get things done faster and save time. Give me some examples of specific things you did and how much time they took. Then, think about a way to do them faster. 1)Grinding 2 carrots and half an onion, adding lemon and olive oild took me 10 min and 6 seconds (10:06 from now on) 2) Eating the stuff until I was unable to take no more- 18:41 2)Eating a whole mango - 4:32 3)Clean 3 small dishes and clean the sink - 2:02 4) Taking a bucket with water and a mop, walking 105 steps to the car, washing the roof, the engine cover and the luggage cover, the front and the back glasses - going 105 steps back to the garden - 10:05 Well, things do take time and I think I could have done some stuff faster : The salad I ate less than half so I could have grated only 1 carrot and less than quarter of an onion, I could have eaten just 1 side of the mango and next time, I better park the car closer to the house. Your take, mylotters, give me an example of actions that you did, taking time with the stopper watch and suggest how to cut with the timing.

My housemate tracked my time in the shower to a perfect 11 minutes 30 seconds. Beat that! lol

I have a short hair so washing my hair doesn't take too much time, a couple of seconds to clean my head. So, I put some shampoo, I soap myself with the soap, I wash it all with the water and then, I put some soap on my wet beard and get the towel. I wipe the water but not from the beard. Then I shave my beard (the soap is perfect for making the beard soft, I don't need a gel or a shaving foam. The soap is just fine). Then I get dressed with the clothes I put near the shower. The whole thing takes me 11:01. So, I use the time when I dry off with the towel to prepare for shaving. The soap works on my beard. 2 birds in one hit. I'm not a big man, only 1.75 centimeter height and 61 kg weight, so, I don't need a lot of soap all over me... Having short hair and being thin saves time in shower :-)

@stringer321 now that's very detailed.

@sol_cee Getting into the details can save time if I know how to handle the small tasks, how to do them all together efficiently to save time, I get down to the details :-)

i like to eat slowly, it healthier, i would never bother to measure time with a stopwatch .... i just do what i do, and it takes what i takes- just depends if i like doing it or not.... if not i'm doing it faster :) when a quit smoke it gave a lot of time to do stuff that really matters

All right, so, during the day, smoking wastes time and you were strong to stopped it. You saved a huge amount of time. I have to stop playing useless computer games and waste time watching wwe videos, those waste a lot of time. If I stop them, I will be able to study a lot more. Thank you very much.

@zaguguina Aww...I wrote that the games are useless, I wrote it because of my goal to save time that is the main goal of this discussion. I had to be more specific. I take my words back. Sorry. The reality is sometimes not comfortable and with some tips and advice to save time, the reality can be easier. Time is valuable :-)

I would think thinking about this all the time might become a bit obessive. I've never kept that close of time watch on anything except for when I was a kid and trying to take a fast shower.

Maybe you can save some time if you do things differently, I'm not talking about trying harder, but, doing smarter. See my responds to other comments I already gave them examples.

I don't actually take time to measure the time of whatever I do but I am certain that I do things faster because I value every second of my time.

@stringer321 I eat anyting faster than my husband. If my husband could finish his lunch in 20 minutes, I can do it in 10.

@salonga Aww... so you eat faster than your husband. That's all right, but, compared to yourself, can you find a different way to do something so it will take you less time ? For example, sweeping the dust from the floor with a bigger broom can maybe help here and save some time. Can you compare what is faster when sweeping the floor ?

Can you please give me an example for any thing that you do and how you do it faster ?

Aha, I like the idea of timing what you do then reviewing it to see if we could efficiently do it any faster...

Well, I don't do things in a rush, I do them in a regular speed. What I'm looking for is how to do them more efficiently, how to waste less time. 1 and half an hour ago, I grated 2 carrots and I needed only one to eat. I could have grate only one carrot then and save some time. Can you please give me an example of something that you did and how much time did it take you ?

@stringer321 Can't really think of any right now... I've never really timed what I'm doing... But I'll get back to you if I can come up with an example... Good luck!

@sishy7 Just think about something, whatever you do. For example, if you brush your teeth, measure the time it takes you, if you make a dinner, measure the time. The goal is to find ways to save time.

Whoa whoa .. this is not for me .. I do things reasonably fast but I don't want added pressure.. I like to do the things I do well ... I don't fret if it takes a bit more time. Its true .. I like to eat fresh and not waste food so I usually only cook the amount needed for each meal.

That's a good tip you are bringing here, use the amount of things needed to do the taks and use no more than the required. The goal is not to try hard to do faster, but, to do things smarter to save time, for example, if I need to wash the floor, I better take the bucket that's already in my house and not the one outside the house. If I have to wash the car, I can bring 2 mops, 2 buckets of fresh water to the car. I don't have to bring the car to the house if the distance is not too far for walking. What about walking ? I sometimes have to go to some place, I have several ways to go there, so I measure time to see what's the fastest way to get to there and to get home from there. I'm not going to run there. Another example, I bought some vegetables today so, I took 2 of each kind and put them all together in a bag so I have all the ingredients for a salad instead of looking for the ingredients and forgetting some in the fridge. I make small packages for the salad ingredients so all I have to do is to just cut them in the slicer.

@stringer321 That is very good planning.. I always do that with chores around the house, but not with so much precision as to measure my activity with a stop watch.

I only cook the amount of food that I know we can eat so there is no waste.

This saves you a lot of time and also save a waste of food and money. For me, it is also easier when I focus on a small amount of things. My mind is focused, I don't need to figure out what I have done so far, where am I in the process and what to do now. But, if you can cook a bigger amount that is enough for a couple of days, you also save time on the long run. The food may be less fresh and less tasty though... For me, it depends if I want to save time for some days, it requires working harder today.
