This afternoon a hauler truck came to load the banaba trees (Lagerstroemia speciosa). The young banaba trees were planted near our home.It bears beautiful violet flowers (in the photo). It is so beautiful and birds love to perch on its branches and leaves. Last week some men dug around each tree and balled them for hauling. They said it will be used for landscaping somewhere else. The owner of the trees rented the lot near us for growing the banaba seedlings, then when he needs it, he just ball the bigger trees and transport it to his clients. I wish they would not get all the trees which make our place beautiful and cooler too.

How long does it take to grow them? Can't you also grow some on your property? .. I might grow tham on my retreat over there in the Philippines if they keep the place cool in summer ..

@acelawrites are they always available in nurseries over there? Five years to grow is not that long.. I would definitely look for them when I go back there next year..

It is a perennial tree, can take five years or more to grow it. But it is a good tree because it is medicinal too.

@epiffanie I don't know if all of the nurseries here are selling it. But the Bureau of Plant Industry could have it or some other government nurseries.

That's a pity for you, but quite understandable as the owner is growing them as a business.

At least they will grow it somewhere and not just uprooting them.

So those are banaba trees, I've been seeing them and loving the lavender flowers but did not know they are actually banaba. I hope those trees will not die wherever they will transplant it. Why don't you plant banaba also in your yard?

Yes, and banaba trees have medicinal properties too. I can't plat it because we have a very small yard. I just plant ornamental plants.

@acelawrites yep as you've mentioned already. I'd rather be it that way than just cutting down the tress.

I really wanted them around us; it makes the surroundings cool, and clean too. Anyway there are still mahogany trees nearby.

They have the right to get it since they planted it there as seedlings. Now they are grown enough, they'll use it for landscaping.
