Jeremy F Koo reports the news on Sunday the Oakland Athletics have placed their handed starting pitcher Sonny Gray on the 15 day disabled list with extensor muscle soreness in his right arm. The Athletics will replace Gray on their 25 man active roster by promoting from their AAA minor league team the Nashville Sounds right handed relief pitcher Chris Smith. The Athletics to make room for Smith on their 40 man roster have placed their catcher Josh Phegley from the 15 day disabled list to the 60 day disabled list since Phegley has surgery on his right knee on July 5 after he was placed on the disabled list on July 2, 2016. The management of the Athletics are not sure when Gray will be able to return to pitch for the team but it is seriously doubtful he will be back when he is eligible when his 15 day time expires.

Looks like Sonny Gray's underwhelming season is over. Why bother to try pitching him later.

That would be a good idea since Sonny and the Athletics season is over as far as making the postseason.

@Deepizzaguy Oakland may try to move Gray during the off season.
