I'm really enjoying the surge in posts here in the music world! We have a number of themes going on right now, and I'm loving them all. My current theme is "walk" songs (I finished "run" songs last week), song with "walk" or some variation thereof in the title. Here's the next song. #8: Sleepwalker - Kinks In all of my music posts since I joined myLot I'm ashamed to say this is my first Kinks post. Shame on me! What a fabulous, fabulous band. I got to see them, in 1979 on the Low Budget tour. I was lucky: Ray and Dave Davies weren't fighting that night, so it was a great show. And this song, while not one of the most popular Kinks songs in history, has always been one of my favorites. I first encountered this song in 1977 when a station in Savannah, Georgia would start playing more FM-oriented rock (the only station that didn't just play "all the hits") in the evening. They also played Poco a lot, so I loved that station! Inspired by Ray Davies' frequent bouts with insomnia, "Sleepwalker" is a great song about life after night. It's not something we'd think about in today's 24/7 world but back then stores did close at 9. Although sounding threatening ("better close your windows tight, I might come in for a bite"), it's obvious this guy isn't out to harm, just to cure his insomniac boredom...and inviting others in on the fun. I am familiar with the Kinks but was never a follower. Is your secret Kinks name "Lola"?

No, my world isn't mixed-up, muddled-up, and shook up like that.
