Hypertension or high blood pressure: How do you view it?

These days I am suffering a little bit uncomfortable in the right temple close to the eye. If I lie in bed, I feel better. Yesterday evening, I went to the local phamarcy and got some traditional Chinese medicine recommended by one of the chemists working there. She took my blood pressure and found that it was 161 / 101 and heart beat 72. She said that I had hypertension because the normal blood pressure readings are lower than 120 / 80. I did not know that I had some high blood pressure until checked by the chemist. In fact, I did not know and still do not know much about high blood pressure, but after surfing online I discovered that high blood pressure, or hypertension, is a very common condition in older adults. Now I see that the blood pressure is the physical force exerted by the blood as it pushes against the walls of the arteries. An elevated blood pressure means that the heart must work harder to pump blood. High blood pressure can also damage the walls of the arteries. With time passing by, hypertension increases the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. It sounds so terrible to me after getting to know a little bit knowledge of this. I hope it will not accompany me or it will leave me when I have a good rest. How do you view hypertension whether you find you have it or not? And how do you deal with it? Any good ways to avoid it? I appreciate your response in advance. Take care.

I wonder if you will continue to have this. I think usually its for life if you get it unless its during pregnancy. My dad has had high blood pressure for years.

Sadly to say that I am diagnosed with high blood pressure yesterday for a medical check up. Today I am starting to take some medicine prescribed by the doctor. It makes me feel worried after knowing about it. I have to be more careful with my health status now.
