'For Sale' Signs - the New Mailbox?

Once upon a time there were only mailboxes outside on the front of a person's lawn by the street. While the mailboxes are unchanged and still there, the number of 'For Sale' signs are rivaling them. Driving along a road that was a flurry of activity 20 years ago shows nothing but closed businesses and people wanting to get out. But get out to where? I see the same depression everywhere I go to these days. When is there an area that is actually flourishing? It's sad to see entire communities drying up and the populations disappearing. I have been helping to try to save a glass plant here in town and the larger corporation gave it its death sentence and it will be demolished. All of its technology was sold to Italy, though there were plenty of people that wanted to buy it here. What's the behind closed doors scenario there? Especially after sales were looking up... Something is wrong with America these days, and it's a sickness with no cure in sight.

It's most probably still a fallout of the last down turn that we all experienced or a continuing consequence of greedy big corporations and companies out sourcing elsewhere for profit at the expense of the American people and their jobs.

I'd say the government is greedy before the companies. After all, they only keep forcing more and more costs and taxes upon them. If they lightened the amount there's a good chance they'd stick around.

@OneOfMany I think it's because government is also in cahoots with other greedy entities like arms makers who always have the political backing, just take the case of the over priced F-35 it caused every one a lot in terms of taxes and that's just one example

@louievill I do understand that. It's like how the government continued making tanks for years because it kept certain factories open, while their generals were telling them tanks were never needed and to allocate the money elsewhere. If they were smart, they would use part of the defense budget to covert military bases over to microgrids with sustainable technology. Get as many of them off the grid as possible, and that's big for both boosting green technology and furthering the environmental initiatives.

@OneOfMany the town where people work might, the town I live it is not, but as I said, it's got good schools and is better to live in, plus an easy commute

@Jessicalynnt Often the fringe towns do better when they can access a town that is supported. Of course, if the government did things right they'd learn from that fact by reducing income taxes. The reduction would create more growth and more opportunities, as well as ripple and eventually create new jobs. More people are employed and the tax revenue goes up because more people are paying taxes. Sadly they are always trying to squeeze the sponge dry.

Any ties to government? I find that the places with ties to big government are all prospering while the towns that aren't are suffering. After all, most of the county seats around the state are doing well even if their areas are not.

I'm debt free, but still trying to make a larger income. I went up a tax bracket last year and it took a while to adjust my budget to the amount stolen by the government. If I manage to go up again in a few years I want a large enough amount saved up so I don't get desperate at tax time.

@everwonderwhy I want to help the entire world become a better place, but I would love to see my home get its head in the right place so that I don't have to worry about being mauled by a nutcase on my own block. "United we stand" certainly hasn't been the case lately. We are a divided country.

@OneOfMany America and people's hearts, mind and spirit need "cleansing" up and start anew. Expose those, in the light of integrity and truth, corrupt in the government and WH, fire them and lock them up.

Sounds a bit like certain areas in the UK. Are the houses and businesses selling? We have a lot of empty shops on our high streets.

My town's main street was full of shops and businesses 25 years ago, and now they are almost all empty. When I was in high school the are was doing really well economically, thanks in part to a big cable/internet company's headquarters in the next town over. However, they were foolish with their money and the company collapsed. After that, businesses in the entire region just went down hill.

@everwonderwhy The CFR needs to be burned. It is such a lousy book of regulations because it is such a mess that you need special lawyers to sort through it, and all the loopholes are there for companies and individuals in the know to take advantage of it.

Will their action provide at least a few jobs to the people? Why people are keeping quiet?

No, most likely there will be no jobs. They might be keeping quiet to prevent a backlash.

@OneOfMany And they say that the present rosy Admin of its true color of all-talk-and-no-action, that failed to flourish from some decades now, can make things right with their darling female candidate once she sits as president? I hope and pray that the glass company you've been trying to revive will get back to its feet and shall find its way to recovery and full operation again-- same with your neighboring towns and cities. It will happen. You do need a credible businessman for a leader who understands the heart and plea of real hard working people for your country. God bless America!

Some people fear the country will fall into ruin with Trump, I fear that with Hillary. However, more than anything I'm afraid of the people that choose not to think and go with the feelings the media gives them. There are far too many soulless puppets out there doing the bidding of the media's suggestion. I want everyone to become their own individual, and when they decide that by bettering their own life they can stand apart from the people that want to drag them down, they are better off, then we can all move forward. The glass company may not revive, but I hope some spirit does that will help bring prosperity to the community.

@everwonderwhy I always wondered how we could have a president/vice president combo that was Obama Biden, when Osama Bin Laden was such a close association. It's practically the same name... I think I'll be busy in the future trying to steer people down a new path. Politics will destroy this country, and different systems exist that can help out.
16 Aug 16
@OneOfMany It's already in ruins since and on the verge of disaster under Barack Hussein Obama administration. Hillary will finish it for Obama. People see that now and are praying and hoping for Trump to lead with the lawful citizens of America!

Where we live right now seems to be doing okay economically. When we lived in Arkansas, I saw a lot of what you are referring to.

I just went to a site that has some listed as the most affluent and most poor cities in America:
Gawking at America's astonishing wealth disparities at the city level.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I'm sure the city my uncle's magazine business is in is on the poorer side. Maybe living in the number 2 city has confused politicians on the state of the rest of the country. Time to haul their butts outside and see how everyone else is doing and then tell them to afford the tax increases themselves or face divine retribution.
